What is Browser Protector?
Browser Protector is an adware program that installs itself onto your browser via bundled downloads. It is similar to other ad-supported applications like Browser Guard, Safe Browse, Surf Safely, Browser Secure and more. The purpose of these programs is to generate traffic of the pages that they promote and in order to do so they will add various commercial adverts to your browser. Keeping adware on your PC is not safe.
The program may not be malicious itself, but it will expose you to dangerous content. If you do not want to risk your computer safety for an application that has no benefits, you should delete Browser Protector from your system.
How does Browser Protector work?
Contrary to its name, Browser Protector does not protect your browser in any way. Aside from the constant ads, banners, links and pop-ups that will undoubtedly annoy you, the adware also tracks your browsing habits. It records what pages you visit and what searches you make, not to mention your IP address, your location, the type of browser you use and so on. This information may not be personally identifiable, however, it is still your right to keep it private. That, however, is not the worst feature of Browser Protector. The program may expose you to fake links and ads that could lead you to corrupted webpages. If you get redirected to these pages your system could be infected by malware. Do not download any software or software updates from unfamiliar and unreliable sources and do not click on any suspicious links.
Keep in mind that there are various methods of distribution of potentially unwanted programs. Browser Protector, for example, is distributed via bundled downloads of freeware or shareware. You could also have downloaded the application, because it was advertised as something else. During the installation process of freeware you should be attentive and when possible choose Custom Installation to see which programs you are installing in addition and deselect them if you do not need these applications on your PC. Adware is certainly one of those applications which is why we suggest you terminate Browser Protector.
