Cryptofortress Removal Tips
Cryptofortress is a ransomware virus which attacks your computer and encrypts files in order to steal your money. It secretly sneaks into user’s PC and starts malignant activities. In most cases, you will not notice the virus until it presents itself to you via a ransom demanding message.
This dangerous infection has the same goals and operating method as CryptoLocker, CryptoDefense, CryptoFortress, TeslaCrypt, etc. Before agreeing to give away your savings to cyber criminals, read this article to find out how you can remove Cryptofortress from your computer.
What does Cryptofortress do?
Before performing Cryptofortress removal, you should understand how this virus works. The intruder scans your drives and manages to encrypt .wma, .png, .doc, .big, .mcgame, .pdf, and many other files. The virus uses AES encryption and the encrypted files gain the .ecc extension. Our research team also noticed that this ransomware is similar to another virus called TorrentLocker. Cryptofortress uses the same pages as TorrentLocker and both infections use source code for the ransom notes. However, this virus is not the same and it slightly differs from other, previously arisen viruses.
After it successfully encrypts your files, the application shows the user a message in which it demands to pay the ransom of one Bitcoin, which is approximately US$300. The hackers that created this virus also allow the users to decrypt two files of their choice to prove that it can be done and to encourage them to pay the money. These files cannot be larger than 500 Kb. After locating the supported data file, Cryptofortress copies it and adds the .frtrss extension at the end of the file’s name. After the data encryption is complete, the original extension and filnamename are restored once more.
The presented ransomware message looks like this:
All your important files (such as files on the network disks, USB devices, etc.): photos, videos, documents were encrypted with CryptoFortress virus. The only way to get your files back is to buy our decryption software. Otherwise, your files will be lost.
Caution: Removing of CryptoFortress will not restore access to your encrypted files.
