Default-search.net Removal Tips
Default-search.net is classified as a browser hijacker. It can affect your Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome or Internet Explorer. The application switches your home page and search provider to Default-search.net. If you try using this engine, you will be redirected to Yahoo Search. Which means that there is no point in having it installed, because you could just use Yahoo Search on your own, if you wanted to.
The hijacker has been associated with Linkey by Aztec Media and Windows Version Installer by AnySend. It gets installed together with these programs and usually the computer user does not even realize that he allowed it to enter the system. Since it is not useful in any way, we suggest you remove Default-search.net from your browsers.
How does Default-search.net work?
Once the hijacker enters your PC, it automatically modifies your browser settings. Your home page gets set to Default-search.net and so does your default search engine. The webpage itself may not look that suspicious. It is similar to other search engines, however, it does have a fake advertisement right below the search box labeled ‘Ad by reimage.com’. If you click on it you will be redirected to a page that offers a potentially unwanted application called Reimage Repair. Moreover, once you try to search for something using the engine, you get redirected to Yahoo Search. Here you will see lots of ads and sponsored links. We do not recommend clicking any of them as there are no guarantees that they are legitimate. There is no sense in risking your system security like that. You should terminate Default-search.net and go back to using reliable search tools.
As it has already been mentioned, the hijacker is associated with Linkey, which is classified as an adware program. It is promoted at linkeyproject.com and is supposed to improve your browsing by providing you with “best sites in one click”. Default-search.net is not mentioned anywhere on this program’s main page. The program displays continuous adverts on your screen. If you have it in your system, you will have to uninstall it as well.
